Performing Umrah is highly spiritual experience for Muslims all over the world including thousands of Muslims who visit Makkah every year. Meqaat Points for Umrah
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) assigned five Meqaat points for pilgrims travelling from various directions.
Dhul Hulaifah (Bir Ali):
- Situated close to Madinah.
- The Meqaat is for pilgrims passing through or departing from Madinah.
Juhfah:
- Situated close to Rabigh.
- The Meqaat is for pilgrims travelling from Egypt and the Levant ( Palestine, Syria and Jordan)
Qarn al-Manazil:
- Situated close to Ta’if
- The Meqaat is for pilgrims passing through or travelling from Najd.
Yalamlam:
- Situated southeast of Makkah.
- The Meqaat is for pilgrims coming from Yemen.
Dhat Irq:
- Situated northeast of Makkah.
The Meqaat is for pilgrims coming from Iraq and surrounding regions.
These Meqaat points for Umrah are still followed today and new paths link with them to facilitate pilgrims enter Ihram properly.
Meqaat points near Makkah
It is not needed for pilgrims who are already inside the boundaries to go back to the five main stations. The most common stop outside the Haran boundary is Masjid Aisha which is well known as one of the Meqaat point near Makkah.
Meqaat from Madinah
Dhul Hulayfah is the selected point for persons coming from the holy city Madinah. This station has great spiritual value because it was established by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was close to the city where his holy mosque and resting place is situated. All people will give up wealth, power and material belongings one day to appear before Allah with nothing but their deeds, just as the pilgrim give up their worldly clothes for their Ihrams.
