Cheap Umrah packages: how to keep the cost down
Cheap Umrah packages from the UK usually mean travelling outside Ramadan and school holidays, staying a little further from the Haram, and flying with a connection rather than direct. Meqaat Travel offers economy packages from £[price] per person. Here is what makes the biggest difference to the price:
- Travel dates. Late January to early February and the weeks straight after Ramadan are the cheapest. Ramadan, Eid and UK school holidays are the most expensive.
- Hotel distance. A hotel 800 metres from the Haram can be half the price of one 200 metres away. A shuttle bus or a short walk saves a lot.
- Flights. Indirect flights via Istanbul, Doha or Dubai are cheaper than direct flights from London.
- Length of stay. 7 nights costs less than 10 or 14.
- Booking early. Prices rise as flights fill up, especially for popular dates.
We will always tell you the honest trade-off. A cheap package should still mean a clean hotel, a confirmed visa and someone to call if there is a problem.
Umrah packages 2027: dates and prices
Umrah packages for 2027 are on sale now. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 and end around 9 March 2027, subject to the moon sighting, so Ramadan Umrah will fall in February and March. Hajj 2027 is expected in late May, and Umrah visas are not issued for the weeks around Hajj. Below is a guide to the year.
- January 2027: cool weather, low demand, good prices.
- February to March 2027: Ramadan. Highest demand and prices.
- April 2027: Easter school holidays, family demand, mid to high prices.
- May to June 2027: Hajj period, Umrah visas suspended for several weeks. Very hot.
- July to September 2027: summer, very hot (often above 40°C), lower prices.

Hotels near the Haram in Makkah and Madinah
We give the walking distance for every hotel in metres and minutes, not just a star rating. As a rule: under 300 metres is beside the Haram, 300 to 800 metres is a short walk, and over 800 metres usually means a shuttle bus. Our team has stayed in or visited every hotel we sell. Popular choices include.
Best Hotels in Makkah
The best hotels in Makkah for Umrah are the ones inside or beside the Abraj Al Bait clock tower and the King Abdulaziz Gate, such as Swissôtel Makkah, Pullman ZamZam, Makkah Clock Royal Tower and Raffles Makkah Palace, all within 100 to 200 metres of Masjid al-Haram. For a lower price with a short walk, 4-star hotels such as Al Kiswah Towers, Elaf Kinda and Anjum Hotel sit 400 to 800 metres from the Haram, with shuttle buses where needed. We have stayed in or visited every hotel we sell, so ask us which suits your budget and mobility and we will tell you plainly.
Best Hotels in Madinah
The best hotels in Madinah are those on the edge of the Masjid an-Nabawi courtyard, such as Dar Al Taqwa, Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick, Dallah Taibah and the Oberoi, all within 100 to 300 metres of the mosque so you can walk to every prayer. Good 4-star options a little further out, such as Al Eiman Royal, Elaf Taiba and Zowar International, sit 300 to 600 metres away and cost a good deal less. Madinah hotels are generally cheaper than Makkah for the same distance, so many pilgrims choose a better hotel here and save on the Makkah stay.
Umrah visa for UK pilgrims
British citizens need an Umrah visa or a Saudi tourist eVisa to perform Umrah. Meqaat Travel applies for your Umrah visa through the official Nusuk platform once your booking is confirmed. You will need a passport valid for at least six months and a passport-style photo. Women can travel without a mahram. Non-British passport holders living in the UK should contact us, as requirements differ by nationality.
10-Day Umrah: A Practical Day-by-Day Itinerary
Most UK pilgrims on a 10-night package spend four nights in Madinah and six in Makkah. Starting in Madinah lets you settle in and rest before Umrah, and you enter ihram at Dhul Hulayfah on the way to Makkah rather than on the plane. Here is how a typical 10-day trip runs.
Day 1 – Fly from the UK to Madinah
Depart London, Manchester or Birmingham. Direct flights take around six hours. Our driver meets you at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport and takes you to your hotel. Rest, then pray Isha at Masjid an-Nabawi.
Day 2 – Masjid an-Nabawi
Pray Fajr in the Prophet's Mosque. Visit the Rawdah (book your slot on the Nusuk app in advance) and give salaam at the Prophet's grave. Spend the day praying in the mosque and getting used to the routine.
Day 3 – Ziyarat in Madinah
Half-day guided visit to Masjid Quba, where two rakat carry the reward of an Umrah, then Mount Uhud and the martyrs' graves, Masjid al-Qiblatain and the site of the Battle of the Trench. Back in time for Asr at the Haram.
Day 4 – Free day in Madinah
A quiet day for worship, visiting Al-Baqi cemetery after Fajr, shopping for dates, and resting before the journey to Makkah.
Day 5 – Travel to Makkah and perform Umrah
Shower, put on ihram and make your intention at Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali) Miqat. Travel to Makkah by coach (around 5 hours) or the Haramain high-speed train (around 2.5 hours). Check in, then go to Masjid al-Haram for Tawaf, two rakat at Maqam Ibrahim, Zamzam, Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, and halq or taqsir. Your Umrah is complete.
Day 6 – Rest and worship in Makkah
Sleep in after a long day. Pray all five prayers in the Haram and perform a voluntary Tawaf. Find your bearings: the gates, the shoe racks and the quickest route from your hotel.
Day 7 – Ziyarat in Makkah
Guided visit to Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira, Jabal Thawr, Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat, and the Jannat al-Mualla cemetery. Those who wish can enter ihram at Masjid Aisha (Taneem) and perform a second Umrah.
Days 8 and 9 – Worship at Masjid al-Haram
Two full days with no travel. Many pilgrims spend these in the Haram from Fajr to Isha, read Quran, perform extra Tawaf, and visit the Makkah Museum or the Clock Tower exhibition in the afternoon heat.
Day 10 – Farewell Tawaf and fly home
Perform Tawaf al-Wida (the farewell Tawaf) as the last thing you do in Makkah. Transfer to Jeddah King Abdulaziz Airport, around 90 minutes, and fly back to the UK.
Every itinerary can be adjusted. If you prefer Makkah first, want more nights in one city, or are travelling with elderly relatives who need a slower pace, tell us and we will plan around it.
